Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Components

They can be forged to give additional benefits. A glyph that is crafted can boost the chance of upgrading its target, and boost upgrades increase the attack or defense capabilities of weapons.
You can attach an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will show the upgrade components that the item can be upgraded. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either instance, the item will be upgraded when enough upgrade components are gathered.
Each component has its own experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item gains when upgraded using that component. Organic components, like have a higher multiplier of experience than mechanical components. It is therefore recommended to upgrade with organic components until you have reached the experience multiplier of the next rank of equipment or weapon, and then move to mechanical upgrades.
In addition to the multiplier for experience Each item also comes with a maximum number of upgrades that it can receive. Sets
